Sanofi Replaced Active Heating And Cooling Shipping Systems With Passive Pallet Shippers

Source: Sonoco ThermoSafe

Sanofi needed to replace active heating and cooling shipping systems for international shipments. There are operational challenges because the distribution may be incapable of shipping to locations that do not have documented qualifications and license approvals for foreign markets may be delayed if qualification documentation is not available.

Currently there are minimal passive solutions for international shipping. The logistics are also complex because it depends on the ability of the destination, such as: destination consignee can receive an active unit, but the ability is unavailable to unload or move the containers, having to send multiple small passive shippers to destination, the destination is a remote/difficult location (e.g. embargoed countries), and the shipping schedule is based on the availability of active units for leasing and ability of destination to receive units, as well as, the costs of leasing units.

The company needed an international shipping solution that could reduce the complexity, reduce costs, improve flight availability, and have a fast shipping response time.
