In April 2020, the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) launched ACTIV (Accelerating COVID-19 Therapeutic Interventions and Vaccines) to guide the development of a trial protocol and ensure a coordinated approach.1 As those trials proceeded, data for multiple investigational vaccines was generated in parallel, making the need for a harmonized process even more apparent.
