DataCeutics, Inc. Generously Donates An ipad And Mobile ipad Stand For Patients In The Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN) Burn Center.
This quarter, DataCeutics, Inc. generously donated an iPad and a mobile iPad stand for patients in the Lehigh Valley Hospital Burn Center. Liz Dideon Hess, the Social Worker who provides emotional support to patients and family members coping with burn injuries said, “To call it a wild success would be quite an understatement!”
Since the donation, the LHVN Burn Staff has been offering the iPad to its patients to treat their boredom and restlessness, to help patients stay connected to loved ones, and to use it
as a distraction tool during bandage changes. “From Building a Cookie, Sculpting, Soothing Music, Word Puzzles, and Drag Racing, there is an iPad app for all ages and interests,” says Liz Dideon. Liz thought this was a wonderful gift to those suffering with burn injuries. The iPad has been useful in ways that they did not even anticipate. The biggest challenge has become finding a time to charge it.
- A 14 year old boy with burns on his feet, quiet, withdrawn and missing his friends, used the iPad to Facebook his friends, play angry birds, and play racing games. For a few hours, he forgot that he was in the Burn Center.
- A 41 year old woman with severe grease burns from a cooking accident was missing her four boys and husband. She used the iPad to Skype with her family and stay connected while she was at the Burn Center.
- A 58 year old woman who was a long time alcoholic and admitted with burns, used the iPad to pay her bills online and stay connected to her family, while her burns were being treated and she waited on her transfer to an Alcohol Rehabilitation Center.
