The responsibility of promoting the generation and utilization of valuable patient-generated data in drug development is a collective endeavor. A recent session at DIA Europe 2023 emphasized the importance of collaborations among regulators, industry representatives, academic institutions, and patient advocates in advancing patient-focused medicines development.

As the role of patients in drug development and the associated decision-making continues to expand, it has been noted that patient perspectives are helping to set research priorities to ensure medical innovation addresses unmet needs. This is driving efficiency by focusing all stakeholders on patients from the outset. There is further potential to harness the power of the patient voice in the regulatory process, health technology assessments (HTAs), and payers’ decisions about reimbursement.

Gain insight from five key take-home messages highlighting practical approaches to mitigate risks and providing incentives for utilizing patient-generated data. The focus lies on enhancing predictability, offering guidance, and assuming responsibility for constructing a drug development ecosystem centered around the needs of patients.
