New capability provides clients with one of the most selective and advanced mass spectrometry platforms to meet demanding bioanalytical applications

Tandem Labs, one of the nation's largest bioanalytical CROs, is pleased to launch the second quarter with the installation of two Thermo Scientific™ Q Exactive™ Benchtop Quadrupole-Orbitrap mass spectrometers. This is a significant technical advancement that offers clients high resolution accurate mass (HRAM) analysis for the most demanding bioanalytical applications.

With the new Q Exactive, we are now one of the few CROs to offer our clients one of the most selective mass spectrometry platforms on the market," said Jim Wilfahrt, Vice President and General Manager of Tandem Labs. "We have found many challenging applications -- especially associated with large molecules -- where the HRAM was the only technology able to meet the specificity and sensitivity requirements of our sponsors."

HRAM spectroscopy is becoming more popular as a laboratory technique for the quantitation of pharmaceutical compounds and metabolites in complex biomatrices. Because the new generation of HRAM instruments is more cost effective and dependable than the older HRAM instruments, bioanalytical CROs like Tandem Labs have been able to implement this technology to support drug discovery and development. Increasingly, researchers are looking to mass spectrometry to measure large molecules in complex matrices due to the specificity, sensitivity, accuracy and ruggedness they provide, and HRAM is emerging as a leading platform for these applications

The Thermo Scientific™ Q Exactive™ system uses HRAM Quanfirmation™ capability that makes it possible to obtain high-confidence results without sacrificing MS/MS sensitivity, mass resolution or quantitative reproducibility.  "As the first commercial system to bring together quadrupole precursor selection and HRAM Orbitrap mass analysis, the Q Exactive mass spectrometer is the premier tool for high-confidence identification, quantitation and confirmation of trace-level components in complex mixtures," said Iain Mylchreest, Vice President of R&D, Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry at Thermo Fisher Scientific.

The installation of these new instruments expand the total number of LC/MS/MS systems at Tandem Labs to more than 50, and demonstrates the organization's commitment to applying the latest technology to solve the most difficult bioanalytical challenges for our clients.
