Real-world data (RWD) in clinical research often lacks detail on patients' personal characteristics and treatment experiences, such as access to alternative therapies or satisfaction with current ones. To bridge this gap, Parexel initiated a study to link participant insights with RWD using advanced data science techniques, including technology integration and tokenization. This allowed us to connect RWD with patient-reported data, providing a more comprehensive view of patient responses to treatment and insights into the target population.

The study demonstrated the feasibility of directly reaching specific patient groups, obtaining informed consent, and linking their questionnaire responses with RWD. Focusing on chronic heart disease patients treated with anticoagulants, we successfully connected confidential patient information with medical records. The process confirmed that our patient selection was effective and that participants provided accurate data.

In designing the questionnaire, Parexel included questions on often-overlooked factors like race, ethnicity, and social determinants of health (SDOH) to support diversity in research and explore potential reimbursement pathways.
