Cell & Gene Therapy In The Asia Pacific Clinical Trial Landscape

A new class of therapeutics called cell and gene therapies are revolutionizing how diseases are treated and even potentially cured. Cell and gene therapies aim to change the genetic material to treat certain diseases. Before being injected into a patient, cells are grown or modified outside the body as part of cell treatments. Gene treatments employ genetic material to change a gene’s expression or the characteristics of an individual’s cells. [1] Investigations on gene and cell therapies for a range of terminal illnesses are ongoing, and a few commercial products have been successful in obtaining regulatory approval. Treatment is expensive, and clinical research assessing safety and effectiveness are primarily carried out in high-income countries.[2]
