Most people and organizations are wary of change. New processes and opportunities create risks that could outweigh the benefits of deviating from the norm. Sometimes, though, new challenges can present new chances for improvement. Take, for example, the effects the global pandemic had on direct-to-patient (DTP) clinical trials, which required innovations at speeds that were unheard of previously.

Despite the challenges, then and now, DTP trials do offer the promise of new methods of real-world evidence (RWE) collection and are often leaned on by trial developers. According to CSOFT Health Sciences, DTPs can provide invaluable data in terms of patient feedback and real-life contextual understanding of treatment efficacy. With this type of feedback on clinical trial operations, the design style will only grow in usage.

When investing further in direct-to-patient clinical trials, consider these obstacles as opportunities.
