Specify Appropriate Therapies For Each Patient: Companion Diagnostics (CDx)

Source: LabCorp Clinical Trials

Companion diagnostics (CDx) are tests that will be used to determine if a specific therapeutic is appropriate for an individual patient. There are numerous examples including HER2 by IHC and/or FISH for Herceptin® in breast cancer, ALK FISH for crizotinib in lung cancer, and BRAF mutation status for vemurafenib in melanoma.

Companion diagnostics are an integral component of personalized medicine in facilitating patient selection through testing and profiling an individual’s genetic/protein/biomarker makeup. LabCorp is uniquely positioned within the industry as a full-service clinical trials provider and able to leverage the commercial laboratory testing facilities through to commercial launch. LabCorp’s platform-neutral position brings objectivity to companion diagnostics programs by using the most appropriate testing platform for the individual test for that specific disease.
