DGOF Readiness Package For Research Institutions

Under the U.S. Government Policy for Stopping High-Risk Life Sciences Research, issued July 20, 2026, every institution that receives federal life sciences funding has until January 16, 2027, to put new safeguards in place for dangerous gain-of-function (DGOF) research. This is work that could make a pathogen more harmful or easier to spread. To comply, institutions must set up an Institutional Review Entity (IRE) to review this work, name an institutional DGOF contact, roll out annual training, and adopt written policies and procedures. Federal implementation guidance is still pending, so many research teams are unsure where to begin.
Univo’s DGOF Readiness Package provides a coordinated set of templates that covers each requirement. It includes an institutional policy, an IRE charter, and a standard operating procedure. It also includes a questionnaire investigators use to evaluate and attest to their own research, a referral guide for spotting studies outside sponsored programs, and a crosswalk that maps every requirement to where it’s addressed. Built-in flags separate what’s required from what’s recommended and mark the provisions that depend on upcoming agency guidance. Start shaping a compliant oversight framework now, instead of building one from scratch against a tight deadline.
