Electronic Hauser Diary For Parkinson's Clinical Trials
By Marta Pereira, PhD; Bill Byrom, PhD; Petra Reksoprodjo, MUDr; Lew Fredane, MD

Movement Disorders, characterized by involuntary and abnormal movements, present significant challenges in diagnosis and treatment, particularly in conditions like Parkinson's disease (PD). Research performed by Signant Health has investigated an innovative electronic diary tailored for PD patients to track their functional status. Unlike traditional paper diaries, which often suffer from issues of accuracy and compliance, the electronic diary enhances data integrity through features like time-stamped entries and automated reminders. The latest version, Electronic Hauser Diary 2.0, incorporates user feedback to optimize the interface for ease of use, demonstrating the potential of electronic patient-reported outcomes (ePRO) to overcome the limitations of paper formats. By adhering to established design principles and incorporating qualitative insights from patients, this project aims to validate the diary's acceptability for regulatory purposes. In this article, we explore the benefits of adopting an electronic solution to improve data quality and signal detection in PD clinical trials.
