New Suite Of Digital Measures For Tracking Functional Capacity To Advance Neuromuscular Disease Research

Crowd-People-iStock-1065178846

Accurately tracking functional decline in neuromuscular disorders often requires moving beyond the constraints of periodic in-clinic assessments. Two specific digital monitoring measures, Six-Minute Activity 95th Centile (6M95C) and Stride Velocity 95th Centile (SV95C), are designed to capture peak functional capacity. The 6M95C measure provides an effort-independent assessment of skeletal muscle function that is applicable to both ambulatory and non-ambulatory patients. For those who are ambulatory, SV95C serves as an EMA-qualified primary endpoint, capable of detecting clinically meaningful changes in mobility months before the loss of ambulation occurs. These tools are particularly valuable for researchers working in Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), Becker Muscular Dystrophy (BMD), and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). By integrating these high-resolution data points, clinical trials can more effectively monitor disease progression and evaluate treatment effects with a lower burden on participants.
