SAFE-BioPharma To Participate With ETSI In Securing Global IT Infrastructure

The European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) has invited SAFE-BioPharma Association to participate in advancing their mutual interests to establish a standardized, secure and trusted global identity management and digital signature infrastructure. SAFE-BioPharma will provide expert input on identity management, identity authentication, and digital signing standards.

ESTI, which works with organizations worldwide, is dedicated to producing top-quality standards for information and communications technologies. SAFE-BioPharma manages the SAFE-BioPharma standard used globally within the biopharmaceutical industry to manage digital identities and, using those identities, to improve document-related processes through the use of secure digital signatures. ETSI’s Board of Directors approved the agreement, in the form of a Memo of Understanding.

"We look forward to our participation in ETSI. Global concern for the secure protection of information and assurance in the identities of those accessing the information makes the work of both organizations extremely urgent," said Mollie Shields-Uehling, president and CEO, SAFE-BioPharma Association. The group is a non-profit collaborative of the biopharmaceutical and life sciences industries which creates and maintains standards for assurance of online identity and of digital signature services.

Under the new agreement a representative of SAFE-BioPharma will participate as an observer in the ETSI Electronic Signatures Infrastructure (ESI) working group. The two organizations also will explore a variety of ways to collaborate, including the global alignment of identity trust and digital signature standards, development of workshops, literature and other forms of communication.
