2024 Survey Report: Site-Sponsor-CRO Collaboration

The complexity of clinical research has increasingly challenged the dynamics among research sites, sponsors, and contract research organizations (CROs), as revealed by the 2024 Advarra Site-Sponsor-CRO Collaboration Survey. This survey highlights key barriers to effective collaboration, including misaligned communication, staffing challenges, and inefficient technology systems. While sponsors and CROs often perceive their relationships with sites positively, only 31% of sites feel similarly about CROs, and less than half view their relationship with sponsors as collaborative. The survey found that 43% of sites consider working with CROs "complicated," and 38% feel the same about sponsors.
There is a notable disconnect in priorities, with sites prioritizing more efficient processes and sponsors/CROs focusing on faster outcomes. This report emphasizes the need for improved data entry and integrated systems, suggesting specific actions to enhance collaboration and achieve shared objectives.
