The Expanding Role Of GLP-1 Receptor Agonists In CNS Clinical Research

Medications originally designed to manage blood sugar and weight in type 2 diabetes are now being explored for treating brain-related conditions, particularly substance use disorders and neurological diseases. Recent observations suggest that one class of these drugs—GLP-1 receptor agonists—may reduce cravings and consumption of alcohol and tobacco, with emerging evidence that they could help address opioid use disorder, cocaine dependence, and neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's.
