The problem of the spread of scientific misinformation is very real. We’ve probably all seen stories on social media about COVID-19, or anonymous testimonies from alleged healthcare providers, some of which seem obviously untrue. But we can’t dismiss the impact that misinformation is having on our ability to combat COVID-19, in terms of mistrust of the scientific community, resistance to following COVID-19 precautions, hesitancy to participate in clinical trials and predicted concerns about wide-spread agreement to COVID-19 vaccine use.
