If your research practice has an overwhelming queue of trials waiting to start, you’re not alone. According to CenterWatch Weekly, there were 5,500 planned trial starts in 2021, not including COVID-19 trials, which is 14% more trial starts than in 2020 and 19% more than in 2019. The publication also notes there were 1,015 non-COVID trial starts in the 4th quarter of 2021 alone.

To put it simply: that’s a lot of trials. And research sites aren’t just struggling with tremendous workloads. They’re also facing increasing challenges that slow study pace. For example, CenterWatch Weekly also reports many sites are losing around 50% of their research staff. These challenges, when combined with record-breaking trial start numbers, are leaving overworked sites with tremendous trial backlogs.
