Decentralized Trials: Top 5 Challenges (And How To Overcome Them)

February 23, 2021 | 1PM EST

Clinical trials underwent significant modifications in 2020, with the most obvious change being companies rushing to embrace decentralized trials. The quick adoption rate was mindboggling. According to Grand View Research, the global virtual clinical trials market size was estimated at $7 billion in 2019. It is expected to expand at a compound annual growth rate of 5.1 percent from 2020 to 2027. Additionally, a survey conducted in 2020 found 76 percent of pharma and CRO respondents noted at least some of their trials are now decentralized. Going forward, that trial design is expected to be the new norm in the industry.

But the adoption of decentralized trials did not come without challenges and concerns, as well as changes to company strategies. Ensuring compliance, effectively tracking data, the ability to integrate new technologies with other platforms, patient engagement, and ensuring data quality and reliability are all challenges that companies will face. What can you do to understand, manage, and overcome these hurdles?
