A Few Clicks And Done: Automating EDC Data Entry
By Dan Braga, Vice President, Product Management, EHR and Healthcare Solutions, Medidata
Repetition can have both positive and negative implications. While it can refine skills and boost proficiency, it can also lead to time-wasting and frustration. In clinical trials, the redundant task of data re-entry persists despite the availability of data from various sources like EHRs and CTMS.
A 2022 survey by Medidata and the Society for Clinical Research Sites found that 98% of sites manually re-enter data into EDC systems, with 70% re-entering more than half of their EHR data. This not only consumes valuable time but also increases the likelihood of errors, resulting in extensive query resolution efforts. With an average of 96,980 queries per Phase III study, the burden is substantial, compounded by the yearly increase in trial data.
Despite technological advancements, finding a solution to this issue remains elusive, raising questions about the efficacy of current approaches.
