Expanding Access To Post-Market Safety Exams For Cystic Fibrosis Medication

This study highlights the transformative impact of point-of-need care on patient access, focusing on pediatric cystic fibrosis (CF) patients requiring essential eye exams. When a biopharmaceutical firm faced obstacles such as lengthy wait times, limited Medicaid acceptance, and the heightened vulnerability of immunocompromised patients they collaborated with 20/20 Onsite to implement Mobile Vision Clinics (MVCs) across the country. These clinics, staffed by optometrists, visited 76 CF centers, offering timely and convenient care, especially benefiting rural and Medicaid patients. The MVCs maintained a secure environment through stringent sanitation protocols, resulting in over 415 patients receiving eye exams, with wait times reduced. By facilitating the timely initiation of CF medication, this approach underscores the potential of point-of-need care to improve healthcare delivery for vulnerable populations.
