Industry Executive Responds To API Trends Report
By Ed Miseta, Chief Editor, Clinical Leader
CPhI Worldwide and global online community CPhI Pharma Evolution recently released a report looking into the current state of the formulation and ingredients market. The findings in the report, obtained via interviews conducted with 123 high-level executives and experts from the industry, noted challenges and shortcomings faced by the industry. I spoke with Brian Scanlan, president and CEO of pharmaceutical chemical producer Cambridge Major Laboratories, Inc., to get his perspective on the report and the state of API manufacturing.
Ed Miseta: According to the report, 95% of respondents believe supplier certification is important, but less than 25% are working with a 3rd party auditor. Can you tell us why and whether companies are doing things internally to ensure the quality of products?
Brian Scanlan: Ensuring quality of supply is matter of critical importance, and for the majority of innovators, internal competency is sufficient for supplier certification. CML certifies many suppliers from a quality and supply integrity perspective, and fully supports organizations that promote our values in quality and reliability. Our active memberships in supply chain best practices organizations ensure that we are taking a continuous improvement approach to supply chain security.
