The Changing Landscape Of Clinical Monitoring

The clinical monitoring landscape is rapidly evolving with the advent of decentralized clinical trials (DCTs) that utilize extensive data from diverse sources. Medidata's commissioned survey, conducted by Industry Standard Research (ISR) in April/May 2022, explored current and future trends in clinical monitoring methods. Despite the potential benefits, full adoption of these modalities faces challenges. Concerns include reliance on 100% source data verification and organizational inertia in embracing remote and centralized approaches. Additionally, there is apprehension about potential resistance from trial sites and a possible decline in site satisfaction.
Remote monitoring offers time savings by reducing on-site visits, yet it imposes additional responsibilities on sites, such as document management and uploads. The survey suggests revisiting compensation models to address this increased workload, ensuring fair remuneration for sites. This shift in monitoring practices reflects a broader industry trend towards leveraging technology for more efficient and effective clinical trials, highlighting the need for adaptive strategies to overcome adoption barriers.
